Updated on 02/12/24

With this guide, you can learn how to fold an easy origami tree in just a few minutes.

This simple tree design is definitely beginner-friendly and can be colored or even decorated as a Christmas tree!

Let’s get folding!

For this paper tree, a single square sheet of paper is all that is required.

If you don’t have a square sheet, you can always just cut a regular sheet into a square.

In this guide, I use a multi-colored sheet of origami paper that is green on one side and white on the other.

The tree will end up green and the bottom white, so you can color that trunk brown if desired.

1. Fold the paper from point to point in half

Fold the paper in half from one point to another to make a visible crease.

2. Fold both lower edges to the center crease

Bring both lower edges directly to the center and rub the edges to crease them.

At this point, we have what is known as the origami kite base.

3. Flip over and fold the top edges to the center crease

Now we will fold the top edges to meet the vertical center crease on the other side.

4. Fold a bit of the top point down

Fold down a small portion of the upper tip.

5. Fold the bottom evenly past the top

Fold the paper evenly in half, to where the lower point covers the folded upper tip.

6. Flip over and fold down a portion for the trunk

After flipping the paper, we will finish the tree by folding most of the white part down to make the trunk.

Now you know how to make a simple but fun little origami tree!

Color the trunk brown, or decorate it like a little Christmas tree project!

You could even add a star by folding our easy origami star guide, but you will want to use much smaller square sheets of paper.
