Let’s get folding!

In this tutorial, I use a multi-colored sheet of origami paper that is peach on one side and white on the other.

If you don’t have square paper, you can always just cut a regular paper into a square.

The lotus will end up the color of the opposite side of the paper that you start on.

I started on the peach side of this paper, so the lotus ends up white with a hint of peach showing through.

1. Fold the paper in half twice from the points

Fold the paper in half from one point to another and then unfold it.

Next, bring the opposite points together to make a crease before unfolding it again.

2. Fold the points evenly to the center

Bring each point to the direct center where the creases meet.

Make sure to press the edge of each fold in this guide to make solid creases.

We now have folded what is called the origami blintz base which can be used to start many different origami designs.

3. Fold the new points to the center again

Repeat the same style of folds, bringing the points to the center.

4. Flip the paper over and repeat the process again

After flipping the paper to the other side, bring all the points to the center one more time.

5. Open up the last folds and flip the paper over

Open up the flaps you folded down in step 4, then flip the paper over.

6. Fold a section of the flaps over, leaving a part flat

Start by taking one point and unfolding it outward.

Instead of unfolding it all of the way, leave a little section flat when you crease it down.

The most important part is just folding all the sides the same way to look symmetrical.

7. Flip the paper over and bring all the points to the center

Bring all the points evenly to the center again on this side.

You can begin to open the petals and shape the flower a bit as there is just one more fold.

8. Fold the points outward and curl them a bit

Pull the points outwards and to the other side.

Curl and shape them to your preference.

9. Finish shaping the petals to your liking

Squeeze and shape all the petals to get them as even as you can, and you are done!
